Since the revision of the calculation standard EN1591 (2014 version), pressure has strongly increased to improve certain parameters by the manufacturers of PTFE sheets and gaskets. The revised version of this standard demands substantially improved mechanical material properties for successful flange calculations. In particular, the flow behavior has a great influence on the calculations as well as on the maximum permissible surface pressure. The significant improvement in the new Teadit 30 SH ePTFE gasket sheet is credited to a much more homogeneous and considerably finer fibrillation. The VCI (German Chemical Industry Association) guideline for flange assemblies requires Appendix C“ a minimum PQR value of 0,45 (under maximum operating temperature). On this basis, Teadit  30 SH meets the requirement with a maximum permissible operating temperature for PTFE i.e. 260°C. Filled restructured PTFE materials, as well as other expanded PTFE sheets simply cannot keep up with these requirements. The strategic improvements of the...

Two new TEADIT® products, developed recently, Spool Stock Packing style 2236 and 010-ELE Combo set offer solutions to US EPA and EU VOC Fugitive Emissions Directives. TEADIT® has introduced two packing products for use in VOC Fugitive Emissions valve service. These new products were designed to meet the US EPA Enhanced LDAR requirements and EU’s IPPC (Integrated Pollution Prevention and Control) directive. TEADIT® Style 2236 Single Spool Valve Packing is self-lubricating, non-hardening, dimensionally stable and resistant to gases and fluids as well as heat, pressure and chemicals. Its development stemmed from the industry’s need to meet low emission requirements with a single spool stock product.  A joint study between TEADIT® and 2 major Refinery Groups gave birth to this new technology.  Extensive In-house testing was conducted to optimize the braiding construction and impregnation that form the major advantages of Style 2236.  Laboratory tests performed by internationally recognized Yarmouth Research and Technology,...

Teadit® has one more time stood out in the ASME Pressure Vessel & Piping - PVP 2013 Conference held between July 14 and 18 in Paris, France. This year, Eng. José Carlos Veiga, technical director of Teadit, presented FACTORS THAT INFLUENCE THE SEALING BEHAVIOR OF SPIRAL WOUND GASKETS. This work, jointly developed with engineers Nelson Kavanagh and Gustavo Monteiro, both from Teadit®, demonstrates the influence of the density of the spirals in the sealing capacity of the spiral wound, this variable is not specified in the current version of ASME B16.20.   Besides the presentation, Eng. Veiga was honored during the event in recognition of his valuable research and development service to/for? the engineering and the work carried out. The Teadit director received from Douglas Scarth, "Honors & Awards Committee Chair," Certificate of Recognition for their dedication and contribution to the advancement of the area.       José Carlos...
